The Lake House
I thought The Lake House was a good movie in its genre*. It doesn't make any sense, but that's simply not the point: it's a cute love story, with some cute ideas in it. Stop trying to figure it out.

*The genre is romantic chick-flick. The kind of movie a few guys, surely in the beginning of their significative relationships, either thought would make their date happy, were dragged to, or tricked into seeing (and Brazil-France was on last night!). But guys, take my advice, don't do that: the truth is, you'll never compare. A couple of letters and Keanu is telling Sandra "I'll take care of you", planting trees for her, mapping city walks, writing on the walls; and she doesn't even have the courtesy of sending him winning lottery numbers (that's more surreal than the mailbox idea).
This movie is a fine example of a difference I have found between Hollywood projects and the films of Asia. 'The Lake House' is clearly from the Asian school of filmmaking. I have found that the audience is expected to accept more with less explanation in Asia than American audiences are. A lot less is explained, which makes way for more emotion, and a less linear flow, hence no explanation for the mailbox. I loved it.

Domanda poco romantica e ancora meno sognatrice: ma quando si incontrano, che anno è?
Non mi è piaciuto molto, non troppo romantico, non troppo allegro, non troppo triste… Nell’ultimo periodo e dello stesso genere continuo a preferire Elisabethtown (consigliato vivamente)
* in realtà la casella di posta costituisce un modo per contattare l’operatore. Il protagonista è la proiezione nel mondo di Matrix di Neo. In fondo Trinity è morta e il giovane oltre ad essere diventato famoso è pure belloccio. Potrà dunque cercarsi una nuova “alleata”! Da questo nascono anche tutti i problemi legati alle date e alle teorie sui viaggi nel tempo…
Si incontrano a San Valentino nel 2008.
La cosa che non funziona è che - in una logica tipo "Ritorno al futuro" - se lei ha prevenuto la morte di lui, nel 2006, allora non gli può aver scritto nella lettera di non essere riuscita a salvare un tizio, quindi lui non può essere stato avvertito, e quindi muore... insomma, non si può mai vincere con i viaggi nel tempo, nemmeno alla lotteria pare;)
Ok, ma per lei è il 2008, per lui il 2006...
No... si incontrano in carne e ossa, nel 2008: lui ha aspettato altri due anni per incontrarla invece di finire sotto a un autobus! Pensa che sacrificio;)
